Grace….it’s such an amazing thing. I was sharing our adoption story with a random stranger this weekend. I shared how our son came into this world, horrible choices that the birth mom made while she carried him and how he struggled in the Nicu for 7 weeks. Her first response was like many have shared with me. She asked if I just wanted to beat the mom senseless. She was a kind woman but the choices the birth mom made shocks the mind. It reminded me how grace comes into our lives and takes a hold. God gave me the strength to extend the birthmom grace. Did she deserve it? No. Do any of us deserve it? No. she struggles with addiction and that’s a hard thing to overcome. I heard her life story and while I don’t condone her actions, I can see how she arrived where she was. Every time we went to court and we struggled with his case, God showed me His grace and reminded me to show her love and grace as He would. It was hard at first I won’t lie, but after a while I had so much peace it almost felt weird. So today when you want to judge or throat punch someone (let’s be honest we all think it sometimes), remember the grace God has bestowed on us when we least deserved it. God’s love extends to everyone no matter what we think. Everyone needs love. Period.
